YOUR ONE STOP DESTINATION FOR DESIGNER JEWELLERY

Would You Buy Jewellery Sets?

When you find a jewellery brand that you really like, one that makes lots of pieces that you really love and displays them in a way that you really identify with, it can be hard to resist the temptation to buy a whole set at once. When a necklace goes so well with the matching earrings and then you spot there’s a bracelet as well. Or else, the website offers free shipping when you spend over a certain amount, it just makes sense to top up your order to take it over the amount.

Jewellery brands have recognised this situation and have moved to make it easier for customers to buy full sets of jewellery with one click. It makes sense for both sides: the customer gets a full collection of pieces in stylish gift box all in one order, while the brand makes more money per purchase. But is it really the best decision? Are you buying a complete look of your favourite things, or just seduced to buy more than you’d intended?

When considering the value of a jewellery set, there are plenty of positives to consider. Owning a full set of matching jewellery is a very special feeling. Wearing the full set at the same time can really complete a look. Wearing each piece individually can bring its own joy on a smaller scale at separate times. When it’s a brand that you really love, receiving an expertly wrapped and packaged jewellery set can be one of the best forms of retail therapy. If you’re the type of person that likes a full look when wearing jewellery, buying a full set would be the easiest way to achieve this. It also means that you can take advantage of extra features and promotions offered by brands and retailers. Some brands offer discounts for a set when compared to buying pieces individually, while others offering extras such as specially designed packaging or collectable accessories. You might also qualify for customer service extras such as free next day delivery, or a personalised shopping experience in store.

On the other hand, you have to be certain that you’re getting the best from this deal. If it’s not a brand that you’re totally in love with, will you end up with a lot of jewellery that you’re not so keen on six months later? Although lots of brands throw in extras with their jewellery sets, some don’t. If you’re not being given a discount or anything else on top, you have to be sure that it’s what you’re looking for. Ultimately, if you’re spending more money than you’d originally intended and not getting as much back as you would have hoped, jewellery sets may not be for you.

My other downside to jewellery sets is that it means you can’t mix and match different brands. A lot of the stacks I wear are from completely different designers and I’m very happy mixing metal colours such as black rhodium and yellow gold vermeil. Not only this some of my pieces are completely different prices as well. I think it can be said that the “art of jewellery layering” is slightly lost by buying premade sets.

Here are some jewellery sets from your three favourite demi-fine brands and what the price difference is when buying these pieces as a set.
